The legit cold plunge was great but the home one…

A few weeks ago I tried the cold plunge at the Standard Spa at Miami Beach. Someone measuring the temp said it was 57 F and this was on a sunny 80 plus something day.

That was amazing and I am glad I had a chance to try it a handful of times while there.

While attempting to leave Miami back, hurricane Debby blocked most flights out including ours and we ended up leaving Miami two days later.

It’s ok, got a chance to watch some Olympic coverage from an temporary airbnb stay.

got some views of Debby right from where we stayed !

Debby was not the only thing that followed us back home!

Back home in the north east, in the form of a tropical depression, Debby said hello!

But the idea of the cold plunge followed me home too 😀. Having really enjoyed the experience of the amazing post plunge adrenaline rush, I went online thinking how to recreate the experience.

Fantasizing, hmm could we fit an inflatable cold plunge in our small city apartment?

Thanks to augmented reality, I surmise probably not haha 😅, but I tried the next best thing, perhaps.

Got some freezer cold packs for a bathtub setup.

Filling a bathtub with cold water took about 10 minutes,

Got a handy floating thermomenter from the same company as the freezer packs. Initial reading, 72 F.

I tried it out for a test drive without freezer packs. Actually that was still perceivably cold, but I stabilized in this water much faster than in the high 50s F one from before.

After some freezer packs in there, letting them stay until they melted,

Basically they managed to take the temp down to 70.5 F.

I took one more dip. So I suppose it would take much more ice to get the bath down to 60 F ish. But the good news is, 😀 even at the 70-72 F temp, I still experienced a thermic shock of sorts and so I still felt that nice “positive mindset” after and so for the time being this is still probably good enough. Maybe I’ll try some basic ice cubes next time.

Side note about Debby

Probably should pull this out into a separate post. Two days after, the original flight, leaving Miami for real now, we had additional adventures.
