I had written about my chaos earlier1, mentioning HBO’s take on ED triage in The Pitt as well. But havijg watched Marty Supreme recently , here is a thought on chaos when it has purpose. Marty says in a especially chaotic scene, about a dog, to Rachel, who likely bears his child, that he has a purpose and he does not know whether she does, and he has to see it through.

Spoiler alert but, that scene is kind of silly and foreshadowing perhaps because the movie ends twice, first with Marty fulfilling a milestone in his purpose as a table tennis star, with a rematch in Japan, but then it ends a second time, crying while holding –likely–his son . So which one is the purpose? Can it be both?

Jordan Peterson is known for telling in his Harvard series hiw story arcs of the hero’ journey are common in mythology. And perhaps often tells the story of how Abraham finds purpose through adventure . He emphasizes also I think well maybe it was in his Jubilee Surrounded episode, that the divine as with Abraham can really be the one true purpose.

Finding meaning is probably the most heavily written about topic out there and I think Jordan did at least a good job convincing me , literally by reciting the dictionary of what it means to focus, that you cant have more than one purpose or else you are not “focusing”. And focus is what gives you true clarity, like Marty’s clarity, even if you dont get to predict where your journey ultimately takes you; that is the power of adventure!, it gives you a destination and a compass but no map!
